Field Notes
Inspired by my walks and observations, these leporello books are evocative of Japanese silk screens.
Field Notes 002 ~ Swallowtail Butterfly
Papilio machaon
A rare British Butterfly, this Swallowtail visitor to Rye Harbour is likely to be the migrant subspecies "gorganus" rather than "britannicus" which is now restricted to the Norfolk Broads, where it lays its eggs on Milk Parsley (Peucedanum palustre) plants. "Gorganus" will seek out Wild Carrot (Daucus carota) as an alternative foodplant for the growing larvae.
